Biography
Air Vice Marshal Rushad Din Asad was born on 20 October 1968 in Sylhet, Bangladesh. He joined the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) as a Flight Cadet on 28 July 1986 and was commissioned in the General Duties (Pilot) Branch on 3 January 1989.
Throughout his distinguished career, Air Vice Marshal Rushad has served in 8, 15, and 25 Squadrons of the Bangladesh Air Force in various appointments. He has flown a wide range of fixed-wing and fighter aircraft, including the PT-6, FOUGA, FT-6, F-6, A-5III, T-37B, L-39ZA, and FT-7BG. As a Qualified Flying Instructor, he has trained numerous BAF pilots and remains an active pilot.
His command appointments include Commanding Officer of the Basic Jet Trainer Squadron and Flying Training Wing, as well as Deputy Commandant of the Bangladesh Air Force Academy (BAFA). He also holds the distinction of having commanded BAF Base Kurmitola, one of the Bangladesh Air Force’s key operational bases.
He is widely respected within the Bangladesh Air Force for his integrity, simplicity, and dedication, Air Vice Marshal Rushad has served in several important staff and command positions across the armed forces and government organizations. These include Instructor at the Bangladesh Military Academy and Air Force Academy; Directing Staff and Senior Instructor at the Defence Services Command and Staff College; Director of Air Operations at Air Headquarters; Director of External Affairs and Liaison Bureau at the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI); Air Officer Commanding, Air Headquarters (Unit); Air Officer Commanding, BAF Base Paharkanchanpur, Tangail; and Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Administration). He is currently serving as Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Operations) at Air Headquarters.
Air Vice Marshal Rushad has attended numerous professional courses both at home and abroad. These include the Pilot Instructor Course at Airmen’s Military Institute (AMI), BAF; Chamber Test Course in Pakistan; Flight Safety Course at Flight Safety Institute (FSI), BAF; Watermanship Training at BNS Shaheed Moazzem; High-G Training in Türkiye; Flying Instructor Course at Flying Instructors School (FIS), BAF; Basic Staff Course in Pakistan; Staff Course at the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), Mirpur; War Course at the National Defence University (NDU), Pakistan; and the NDU Course at the Institute for China Defence Studies (ICDS), National Defence University, China.
In recognition of his outstanding service and contributions to the Bangladesh Air Force, he has been awarded the Air Efficiency Medal and the Extraordinary Service Medal.
A widely travelled individual, Air Vice Marshal Rushad is passionate about sports and is an avid reader with a lifelong commitment to learning and the pursuit of knowledge. He is happily married to Mrs. Gousia Chowdhury and is blessed with a son and a daughter. He is scheduled to proceed on Leave Preparatory to Retirement (LPR) on 19 October 2026.
